This project critiques the narrow expectations often placed on Black art. While themes of pride, pain, and resistance are important, they have become limiting when treated as the only valid representations of Black experience. Through a zine and sculptural work involving jewelry and synthetic hair, this project expands the narrative—highlighting difference, individuality, and multiplicity within the Black community and challenging the idea that Black art must conform to a single story.
This collaborative project was created with Jessica Thi and explores the design of a window display for a brand of our choosing. Drawing inspiration from the bold, tattoo-inspired aesthetic of Ed Hardy, we incorporated real clothing and styled looks directly into the display.
I designed the illustrated characters to reflect the brand’s edge, using exaggerated and stylized features to amplify attitude and visual impact. The goal was to create a window that felt expressive, unapologetic, and visually loud—capturing the energy of the brand while translating fashion into character-driven storytelling along with the people who might wear it or definitely want to now.
