This series is inspired by the last Olympic Games and the visibility of Black athletes on a global stage, particularly in track and field. From Sha’Carri Richardson’s graphic nails and bold hair, grills, and natural styles, athletes turned competition into a celebration of self-expression across multiple sports; the Games felt like a visual turning point.
I was drawn to how these athletes used their bodies as sites of expression, identity, and pride. Seeing Black culture reflected so openly within the Olympics felt powerful and refreshing, and I wanted to honor that. Pulling visual reference from vintage Olympic posters and some mid-century European designs, I reimagined what an Olympic poster could look like today. This piece contrasts the restraint and formality of earlier Olympic imagery with the vibrancy, individuality, and cultural expression defining a new era, looking ahead to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
